The incident took place around 11:45 a.m. Sunday at the La Marqueta Grocery store when the owner of a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe called to report that someone had stolen his running vehicle while he was inside the store, said Sgt. Jennifer Pinto.
Shortly after the reported theft, Officer David Squitieri began looking for the Tahoe and happened to spot it near I-95 at the intersection of Grenhart Road traveling west, Pinto said.
Squitieri chased the vehicle, saw the plates matched and stopped the vehicle in traffic.
Inside he found, Terry Barber, 40, of Myano Lane, who was arrested and charged with motor vehicle theft, Pinto said.
Back at the police station, officers learned that Barber was wanted on an outstanding warrant for stealing another car in Stamford last August, she added.
Barber, who pleaded guilty to robbing a Bedford Street bank in 2012, and was sentenced to five years in prison, is being held on $60,000 bond.
